Chapter 3
Cassie and Stacey watch the trial through the window. Mrs. Barnett was the first person to testify about the incedent that accured in her husband's store in Strawberry. She explains what she heard and witnessed, even though she wasn't wearing her glasses. By teh time anyone got there Mr. Barnett was deceased. She was questioned by TJ Avery's attourney. He had a demonstration and he showed it to the jury. It was about the people in question's height. TJ was noticablly shorter than tha Simms brothers. Mrs. Barnett (in my opinion) lied about her opinion on the 3 men's heights. Others people cotinued to be questioned. TJ's testimony was next and he told his side of the story. Then the prosocuter told the jury about a gun found in TJ's mattress that was in Mr. Barnett's store on the night of the murder. The jury went to come up with a verdict and were back within 30 minutes. TJ was found guitly and his friends never saw him again after that. This chapter was a part of the segregation and racism that was presented during the great depression.

This is a wonderful summary by Katy!
ReplyDeletehow does Mrs.Barnetts testimony show that TJ did not kill Jim Lee Barnett
DeleteI like the summary! I feel like you could have mentioned that R.W and Melvin Simms say they saw T.J and 2 other other African American people were running from the back of the Barnett's store!
ReplyDeleteyou didnt mention that mrs.barnett saw 3 black men and when they saw mr.barnett they atacked him and he died.and when mr.jaminson put a black stocking was put over his hand to testify if the robbers were black and also mr.maccabe said he gave tj a ride home and tj was badly beaten.but other than that it was really good
ReplyDeletei like this blogg because it was i think one of the most important chapters because it tells about the trial and TJ.. and tht is a rlly intense moment for his family.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry about the typos; I was in a hurry to get to Mr. Campbell's class. Thanks for the comments. :p Hey Mrs.V
ReplyDeleteI agree with Keelyn. But the mistakes are okayy:).
ReplyDeleteI agree 100 percent. I feel the same way this is a very important part of history too. I believe that TJ didnt need to be hung. I also believe that he didnt do it i think it was the simms brothers.

This summery was interesting, because its what actually happens in the book. Also, I agree with Katy(summery writer) that Mrs. Burnett did lie about the gentleman's height. I also think that this summery is well written and i understood mostly everything.

I really liked this summary except i feel like she totally forgot about how tj smiled at his friends before he got into the police car. This was one of my favorite chapters in the book, i felt like i was in the actual courtroom during the trial because it was so descriptive.

I liked the aummary but I felt like Mrs. Barnett was wrong for accusing the three black men in the courtroom. She didn't know exactly who it was that hit her. She just assumed that because the three men were black and they were all about the same height, except for TJ, that they were the ones that killed her husband and robbed the store.
ReplyDeleteAmanda is right but I have something to add. The only reason it was intense is because mrs. Barnett is a liar.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Ianya!!Mrs.Barnett was wrong for accusing 3 black men in the courtroom.I believe TJ didnt kill Mr.Barnett and they shouldnt hang him.I like this summary !!
ReplyDelete-->Ashley R.<--
This summary is really well put and organized. I think that Mrs.Barnett has no reason to accuse TJ of doing it if he really didn,t do it. Also this summary had alot of discripetions and i really liked it.
ReplyDeletei agree it is a great summary
ReplyDeleteI think this is a good summary , this part is kind of sad because he gets accused because he is black & then his friends never saw him again:(
ReplyDeleteBut again , i like this summary the best !
jessika .
I liked this summary! you're awesome katy! Y because he wa sblack he got accused of doing wrong? I mean Y were the Simms brothers so close to "help" her? Really she's slow!! >:[

I agree this is a great chapter!I really liked this summary=)
ReplyDeleteThis is a really good paragraph. Its totally not fair that white people can judge black people only because they are colored people and they wont believe them. Its also not right that white people get to lie and the judge doesnt really care.
ReplyDeleteit was a giid chaper i didnt get whyy the had to watch in the window
ReplyDeleteYeah i think that only white people can insult the black people but when ever the black people cant say anything back because something always happens bad to them.
ReplyDeleteWHy WAs iT S0o BAd BACk iN THOSe DAYs??? i MEAn DiDNT BLACKs HAVe AlOt To Do WiTH SOCiETY?? i MEAn DiDNt BLACk PPl MAkE THe TOiLET? THe TOiLET WAs An iS VERy iMPORTANt..RiGHT?
ReplyDeleteyah i agree with desiree i thought the part were tj smiled before he was gona be prosicuted was very important because i dont know anybody who would be happy about getting prosicuted
ReplyDeleteI think that it could be white people, even though Mrs.V showed us a example of how it is see through; it could appear black in the dark. I think that he is not guilty and the reason the gun was in his bed was, because that the white people said that they paid for it and then told him not to tell any body that they hit Mr.Barnett. He was going to get the gun in the morning, so he already wanted it so he wasn't hiding it, because the gun was never used as a weapon.
